Laser Hair Removal - Is It a Good Option for Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a very popular hair removal method. It provides lasting results and doesn't have the disadvantages of other hair removal methods. However, it should be noted that this method is not suitable for everyone. It may provide variable results in people with different skin and hair tones. Many people are not considered to be good candidates for laser hair removal treatment.

Laser treatment is a relatively new treatment method. Lasers were first investigated for removing hair in the late 1960s. These methods were mostly experimental and were considered inefficient and time-consuming. Over the years, the methods were improved and laser removal as we know it today came into existence the late 1990s. The method is being constantly improved and newer devices which provide better results are coming into use.

Before laser treatment came into use, mechanical and chemical hair removal methods were the widely used options. In terms of efficiency, these methods are not so good. Firstly, they do not provide permanent results. Secondly, they have to be used again and again. They also have other disadvantages. For example these methods can cause irritation or skin rashes. However, laser treatment does not have these disadvantages and is thus a reliable method of hair removal. Because of its advantages, laser treatment is becoming very popular. It is used in almost all countries across the world. Millions of people in all walks of life have benefited from laser treatment.

Laser treatment, as the name suggests, users laser light to get rid of unwanted hair. When the laser beam is focused on the skin, the hair follicles absorb the energy and heat up. This destroys the mechanism of hair growth and removes the hairs. With laser hair removal, it is not necessary to treat each hair follicle individually. Thus, the method can be used on larger skin areas.

The laser method requires multiple treatment sessions. It cannot remove all the hair at once. Coarser hairs cannot be easily removed even with a single session of laser treatment. However, the hairs that grow back after the treatment will be much thinner and softer and will be removed in subsequent sessions. Usually, 6 to 8 treatments will be required to get good results. It is also essential to have 3 to 12 weeks of time before each treatment session.

Though laser removal has many advantages, it is not suitable for everybody. The hair color and skin type play a significant role in determining the efficiency of this treatment method. People who have brown or black hairs and light skin are suitable candidates for laser treatment. However, if you have light brown, light red or blonde or white hairs, you will not get good results.

Laser hair removal does not have any side effects if it is performed properly. However, in some cases blistering or scarring can result. The treatment can also cause darkening or lightening of the skin or changes to the skin textures. However, the side effects are rarely observed. It can be said that the treatment is more or less safe.

If you're considering laser treatment, it is best to consult a licensed dermasurgeon who has experience with the method. The technician will evaluate if you have a suitable candidate for the procedure and advice you accordingly.
